To accomplish this goal, a coordinate multidisciplinary team will develop and use innovative tools derived from genomic studies and integrate them with plant genetics and plant pathology approaches. |

The main objectives are: |

To characterize specific, partial, and field resistance of some European rice cultivars. |
| 2 |
To identify genes of interest for breeding for specific-complete and partial resistance to blast. |
| 3 |
To characterize allelic variability among European cultivars in known resistance genes and candidate genes related to defence mechanisms against blast. |
| 4 |
To confirm genetically the interest of the candidate genes by testing their co-localization with QTLs involved in the resistance of rice to European blast races. |
